Outfit Post: 1880's Train!

Yesterday, my husband and I had a lovely day out. We went to a beautiful High Mass in the morning, then went for a ride on the 1880's train which is in a town near the church. We finished up with a delicious dinner out! I wore a maxi skirt and a high neck top, both from a store called Bohme, with a jacket since it was only in the 40s and cowboy boots since it was drizzly out. It truly felt like fall, and the leaves are changing, making for a beautiful train ride!

Top: Bohme
Skirt: Bohme
Jacket: Old, not sure
Boots: Ariat

The skirt and top are not maternity specifically but they work pretty well as both are flowy! Bohme has a lot of beautiful long dresses and skirts. Many of them are floral and I love a good floral dress or skirt!

Here we are after the train ride :)

Apple Pie

Last Friday we got our first taste of beautiful fall weather! It didn't get above 51 degrees or so all day...so I had to make some cozy fall food! I made a Maple Caramel Apple Pie.

Before

...and...

After!

I am happy to say my husband loved it! I combined two recipes to make this. For the crust, I used a simple Betty Crocker recipe - flour, salt, shortening, and a little water. You can find it here.

For the filling, I used this recipe from Broma Bakery. It calls for Granny Smith apples, so while I am a big fan of Macintosh and Cortland apples, I went with the Granny Smith and it is definitely the way to go! The reason is that this recipe has a not-so-secret ingredient- maple caramel! The sweetness of the caramel balances out the tartness of the Granny Smith apples. Sweeter apples would probably be too sweet when combined with the caramel.

The caramel was actually really easy to make, and I LOVE maple syrup (I am picky about maple syrup the way my husband is picky about his coffee!) The maple caramel recipe is also from Broma Bakery, here. After mixing the apples and spices and putting them into the pie crust, I drizzled the maple caramel over the apples before putting on the lattice on top. Egg wash and some turbinado sugar (essentially just a fancy name for raw sugar) to finish it off!
I also made a roasted chicken with roasted root vegetables for dinner- a recipe post for that coming soon!
What are some of your favorite fall recipes?

Beautiful Dress

I recently purchased this beautiful, feminine dress from Unique Vintage! They have several dresses and skirts that reach below the knee and have a vintage feel (not all are modest, but there are several great finds.) I purchased the Medium due to my pregnancy, which helps it work for now and then after I have the baby, I can take in the waist and make any additional changes needed.

I plan to crochet or try to find a cream colored scarf to wear with it to make the neckline more appropriate.
What are some of your favorite stores to find dresses at?

We're back!

Greg and I are back and resting up from a ton of travel this month! First was a visit to Greg's relatives for a family reunion and then to my parents for my baby shower. I also got to see my best friend since childhood (we'll call her A until I get her permission to use her name on here :) and my friend H who was headed to enter  the Nashville Dominicans only a day later!

Baby shower!

Meanwhile, I am starting to feel Baby's movements!

Max is being such a ham in this photo! Look at his grin!! :)

Crochet

I am learning to crochet! First project will be a scarf for my husband. I will post pics once I have a bit done! I would love tips as I think I made my first chain too tight, it is still doable but it is hard to pick up the back ridge loops.
